While the foreshore of Byron Bay might be one of the most photographed beaches in the world, it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the region’s stunning waterways.
Why not head a little further from the centre and discover the Byron that many locals don’t even know about. Visit the marvelous river beaches where the rainforest meets the ocean along a spectacular river head, or venture to Broken Head where you’ll find untouched white sandy beaches, rockpools and hidden coves.
Keep your eye out for dolphins and whales, too, which you may spot frolicking in the waves. If you’re game, immerse yourself in one of the tea-tree stained lakes in the region, known for its incredible skin-soothing properties. The lakes derive their colour from the tea-tree oil that drops from the surrounding forest, and locals have been enjoying the benefits for decades
